shachin b asked:
I have built an ecommerce website – and I want to send automated ‘confirmation of payment made, order received etc’ smses to my customers mobile phone numbers.
How does this work? Where should I begin from? Is it necessary to use a 3rd party software? Do I have to tie-up with any telecom company(I want the name of my company to been as the sender of the message)? Where can I get to know the costs of this service? I do not wish to share my customers numbers with a another software provider…can I build this on my own? How do I approach telecom companies?
Please provide me inputs.
Thanks.
I am from India…

That’s a whole lot of questions there…
I’m sure there are many people in your situation so there must be a software out there to help you with it but I am not sure what it would be.
There are a lot of applications and providers. It would depend on how you wanted to send the SMS messages. Using an application API, HTTP , SMTP?
Excerpt from the website below
We are currently charging a one-time fee of USD 120 for setting up and maintaining your API account. This account gives you 24-hour 365-day connectivity with the operator. Once the API account is set up, you have a plethora of options / tools available to send SMS Text messages. You could upload a text file, use a spreadsheet, customize your message to each of the end users, dynamically define your own Sender Identificaion (provided it is approved by SMSCountry), download delivery reports to spreadsheet, integrate using the protocols available (HTTP, SMTP, XML, COM Object, SMPP).
Hope that helps
