I am currently working for a major telecom company in the Buffalo area and the position i am in right now is getting overwhelming, and there is virtually no movement to other departments. It has become a job that many of my co-workwers quite frankly, hate. I have 7 years at my current job (the only thing keeping me there are the pay and benefits) and I have a total of 12 years call center experience. I would be looking at a full time sales or customer service position in the Buffalo center. Can anyone give me some insight as to pay, benefits, working conditions, hours, etc.? Thanks in advance.

Working in insurance (mrs envirodude did it a few years back) is probably not as stable as you may want. It is market driven – meaning if they have a good year, you will be gainfully employed. If they have a bad year, you can expect layoffs.

That being said, doing Customer Service work takes a tough exterior. You will be cussed out, called names, hung up on and threatened. I would imagine that a large company like Geico will have this occur daily as people that are denied automobile claims will be irate.

When I dealt with a Nationwide Adjuster last year, I was appalled how little they did to assist me in my claim. If I could do it over again, I would have had the work done without their adjuster looking at my car (I was hit by a nationwide customer) so that I could get the repairs performed in the manner that I wanted.

It was frustating because it took them so long to coordinate activities between the body shop and themselves.

I tell you this because when a customer calls Geico to complain, you will be on the receiving end.

Sales would be fun, because you have the opportunity to save your customer money. Not knowing how they work, I can not comment on the company.
